As to Champions League, the Blues were undefeated in the Group Stage as they finished ahead of the second-placed Sevilla. The Blues then overcame current Spanish league leaders Atletico Madrid in the last 16 round. Firstly, they won 1-0 the first leg in Bucharest, Romania. Subsequently, the Londoners won 2-0 in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
