Manchester UTD vs Manchester City betting preview
Manchester United are all the way down in 13th in the table after suffering a 1-0 loss at the hands of Nottingham Forest in midweek. The defeat at the City Ground means they have won only four of their 18 matches against teams above them in the Premier League table. They remain on course for their worst top-flight finish since 1989-90. Moreover, Ruben Amorim's men have won six from 15 at home this term, and have suffered 7 defeats. The Red Devils have little left to play for this season domestically, and are clearly setting their sights instead on the Europa League.
Manchester City returned from the international break with a straightforward 2-0 victory versus Leicester City in midweek. The reigning champions are pursuing Champions League qualification - they sit 5th in the league, one point behind 4th placed Chelsea. They have been knocked out of the Champions League and dreams of winning a 7th Premier League title in the last 8 year are long gone but at least the Citizens fought back well to beat Bournemouth 2-1 in last weekend's FA Cup quarter-final.
The last time these two sides met, in December, United ended as surprise victors with Bruno Fernandes scoring the 1-1 draw in the 88th and Amad Diallo netting a dramatic 90th-minute winner at the Etihad Stadium. The red Devils won last year's FA Cup final against Pep Guardiola's men before a draw - losing on penalties - in the Community Shield at the beginning of this season.
Best Odds
The Citizens are 11/10 (or 2.15 with crypto betting sites) to get all three points at Old Trafford. The draw is backable at 11/4 (3.75) while Man UTD are 12/5 to beat City (3.60).
Team News & Probable Line-Ups
Manchester UTD (3-4-2-1): Onana; Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro; Dalot, Ugarte, Fernandes, Dorgu; Garnacho, Zirkzee; Hojlund
Matthijs de Ligt has emerged as a doubt for the Manchester derby after picking up a knock midweek's game against Nottm Forest. Harry Maguire returned to action as a second half substitute at the City Ground and should start at the heart of the back, flanked by Noussair Mazraoui and Leny Yoro as Ayden Heaven, Jonny Evans and Lisandro Martinez remain sidelined. Up front, Rasmus Hojlund should lead the line with Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee behind him. As a result, Bruno Fernandes will partner Manuel Ugarte in the middle of the park, with Mason Mount providing a further option. Kobbie Mainoo is in contention to return to the Man United matchday squad for the first time in two months. Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu will start as wing backs.
Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Matheus Nunes, Ruben Dias, Khusanov, Gvardiol; Gonzalez, B.Silva; Savinho, Grealish, Doku; Marmoush
Manchester City will be without Erling Haaland. The striker limped out of City’s FA Cup quarter-final victory over Bournemouth last Sunday and will be facing up to seven weeks on the sidelines. Omar Marmoush will deputise in his place again, with Jeremy Doku, Savinho and Jake Grealish expected to start as offensive midfielders. Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden provide further alternatives. Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and John Stones are all out through injury, meaning that Abdukodir Khusanov will partner Ruben Dias at the heart of the backline. In midfield Nico Gonzalez and Bernardo Silva should get the nod over Mateo Kovacic and Ilkay Gundogan..
Manchester UTD v Manchester City Predictions
Manchester United are struggling up front, even under Ruben Amorim. They have scored only 21 goals in 24 games against teams outside the relegation zone. Despite that they were unbeaten in 7 games before losing to Nottm Forest frew days ago.
Man City also lacked a cutting edge against Leicester without his star Erling Haaland. Their away form is patchy as Pep Guardiola's men have won just three of their last 11 top-flight games on the road and losing six of them.
As a consequence, we believe this Manchester Derby could end in a draw that would satisfy both teams.
The 1-1 scoreline is our pick in the Correct Score market.
As for player betting, watch out for Josko Gvardiol to have a shot on target and Noussair Mazraoui to have 3+ tackles.
