Real Madrid are having plenty of pre-season problems

Real Madrid will be aiming to bounce back from their incredible 7-3 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid in the International Champions Cup. The team guided by Zinedine Zidane is still without a single win (at least after regular time) in the pre-season so far. The Spanish giants also suffered a 3-1 loss against Bayern Munich earlier this summer. In the middle, they beat Arsenal on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time. These sides met in the 2017/18 Champions League group stages and the Blancos failed to win both the games, losing 3-1 at Wembley and drawing 1-1 at the Bernabeu.

Thibaut Courtois has joined the likes of Marco Asensio, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy and Brahim Diaz on the sidelines. Gareth Bale looks to be edging closer and closer to his move to China and has not been included in the squad. As a result, Lucas Vazquez and Eden Hazard will flank the central striker Karim Benzema. with Isco joining the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the middle of the park.  Casemiro, James Rodriguez, and Eder Militão are all back in training with the club, but are not included in the released squad.

Tottenham’s summer has been mixed to date however Mauricio Pochettino won’t have seen anything to start any significant stresses ahead of their first Premier League game. After an impressive 3-2 victory over Juventus, Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United in their most recent friendly match. The North Londoners will face Aston Villa at home in their 2019/20 Premier League openiong match on August 10. They have made just one signing so far this summer, as Tanguy Ndombele was the club’s first signing since Lucas Moura in January 2018. More new signings are expected before the window closes.

Hugo Lloris could return in goal after missing the first two friendlies of the summer through illness. That means that the only absentees will be Serge Aurier, Ben Davies and Eric Dier. Harry Kane is likely to lead the line once again, but this time he could be supported by Son Heung Min as the South Korean impressed against the Red Devils. New record signing Tanguy Ndombele may hope to play a larger part in the game after only featuring for the first 45 minutes against Manchester United. Full-backs Anthony Georgiou and Kyle Walker-Peters are set to operate on the wings again as Sergie Aurier and Ben Davies are still out with fitness problems.
