Russia could become the first team to qualify for the round of 16

Russia came into the tournament with pessimism surrounding them after a seven-match winless run but they recorded an emphatic 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the tournament’s opening match. Anyway, their clean sheet against Saudi Arabia was a first in 11 fixtures. Although the score suggests that the Russians utterly dominated Saudi Arabia, they were actually on the losing end of the possession battle, as they only held control of the ball 40 percent of the time.

Alan Dzagoev suffered a hamstring injury in Russia's opener and is not expected to recover in time to feature here. Aleksandr Golovin will move to a more central position to cover for Dzagoev, allowing another chance for his replacement Denis Cheryshev to shine following a two-goal performance as a substitute. Artem Dzyuba could also start after coming off the bench to score last time out, with Fedor Smolov making room.

Egypt will have to go for the win against the hosts

Egypt lost their World Cup opener 1-0 to Uruguay thanks to a Jose Gimenez's 89th minute header but they will enjoy Mo Salah's return here. The Pharaohs were poor in their opening game and need a positive result on Tuesday. They had their moments in attack but in the second half their keeper made some crucial saves, their woodwork was also rattled. Egypt have never made it out of a World Cup group stage and have, in fact, never won a competitive World Cup fixture. They looked very vulnerable from set pieces and could also struggle against the physicity of the Russians.

Salah's return should be the only change to the starting XI. He will come in for Amr Warda, joining Abdallah El Said and Trezeguet in the offensive trio behind Marwan Mohsen. Tarek Hamed was also removed with an injury in the first fixture but should be fit to return in midfield, alongside Arsenal Mohamed Elneny. The likes of Fathy, Gabr, Hegazi and Shafy should retain their starting berth at the back.
