Scotland go into this match with four points on the board. They lost narrowly in Germany before a victory against Georgia was followed by a 2-2 draw in Poland. The Scots have lost just one of their last six internationals and they have posted clean sheets in three of those six as well.
Phil Bardsley is definitely out of contention as well as Craig Bryson. Youngster Callum Paterson and Johnny Russell have been drafted in as replacements. Steven Fletcher will lead the line for Scotland with Everton striker Steven Naismith, who is enjoying a very good season.
Ireland will look to continue a flying start as Martin O’Neill’s men have seven points on the board after following up wins over Georgia and Gibraltar with a surprising draw in Germany. They are unbeaten in the last four games since their 5-1 defeat at the hands of Portugal in June.
With Marc Wilson out injured, Kiaran Clark and Alex Pearce will be vying for a centre-back spot. Midfielder James McCarthy is a major doubt while forward Kevin Doyle is definitely out of contention. Wes Hoolahan will miss Friday’s match, whilst Toffees full back Seamus Coleman is included having missed the last round of qualifying matches.
Matches between Ireland and Scotland have been few and far of late. Six of the last seven matches that these two have played have gone under 2.5 goals. Ireland have won the past 2 fixtures with a 1-0 in their most recent direct clash in May 2011 courtesy of a Robbie Keane goal.
