Tottenham v Chelsea Betting Preview

Spurs have won 14 of their last 17 outings in all competitions

Tottenham made a commanding start to their cup double-bill on Friday night, absolutely battering 7-0 Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park. Spurs required penalties to eventually see off Watford, but recorded away triumphs away at West Ham and Arsenal in the previous EFL Cup rounds. Mauricio Pochettino's side currently sit in third place in Premier League, just six points off leaders Liverpool and two behind second placed Manchester City. In the most recent direct encounter with Chelsea, the Lilywhites were excellent in their 3-1 win at Wembley back in November.

Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele are both hoping to be in contention for the hosts after months on the sidelines due to injury while Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are both expected to be absent. Hugo Lloris, Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Moussa Sissoko and Christian Eriksen are all expected to start after being rested last time out. Erik Lamela sat out Friday's FA Cup triumph due illness and will sit on bench at maximum while Lucas Moura is ruled out with a knee issue. Son Heung Min and Dele Alli will support the lone striker Harry Kane.

Chelsea also secured a fourth round FA Cup spot at the weekend, beating 2-0 Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge. The Blues currently sit in fourth position in Premier League, with a three point gap over Arsenal and six points above Manchester United. They enjoyed an 18 match unbeaten run before form has started to slow up in the latter stages of the campaign. Anyway, they are unbeaten in their last four outings, winning three, but managed only to draw 0-0 at Southampton in their last EPL fixture. Maurizio Sarri's men haven't looked as threatening as usual of late, averaging just one goal a game over their last six outings.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek sustained a back injury in FA Cup and misses out for the Blues, whilst Cesc Fabregas appears to be on his way out of the club. Midfielder Mateo Kovacic should recover from illness and join N'Golo Kantè and Jorginho in the middle of the park. Willian is favoruite to start in the front trio alongside Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard, but there could be a start for 18-year-old winger Callum Hudson-Odoi after an impressive performance last weekend. Pedro is expected to return to training this week after a hamstring injury while Olivier Giroud is expected to be sidelined.
