TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 4 BETTING PREVIEW
The stage starts in la Baule, a seaside resort in the Loire-Atlantique, and goes north east to Dervai, before a finish in Sarzeau. There’s only one categorized climb on tap (the Category 4 Côte de la Saint Jean de Poterie) so, on paper, Stage 4 of the Tour de France is another day for the sprinters. Anyway, there are several of uncategorized ascents and downhills providing perfect chances for opportunists to escape.
Sprint teams and GC favourites will be in a constant battle to be near the front which could cause some nervous racing and unfortunate crashes.
Peter Sagan, of course, if the favourite #1 after his amazing Stage 2 victory. The long uphill drag to the line should favor the Slovakian star as well as other fast riders such as Michael Matthews, Arnaud Demare, and the yellow jersey Greg Van Avermaet.
Marcel Kittel should be Sagan's closes rival, with Dylan Groenewegen, Mark Cavendish and Andre Greipel ready to trail the German sprinter, trying not to jump too early on a finish like this with a slight rise. The Dutchman is one of the most backed sprinter for Tuesday's race and his odds are shortening.
We also expect Fernando Gaviria to be in the mix. He is making his Tour de France debut but won three Tour of California stages earlier in the season.
Sonny Colbrelli, the Stage 2 runner-up, is a threat - he also got the better of Gaviria and Sagan on Stage 3 of the Tour de Suisse - as well as Alexander Kristoff, Cristophe Laporte and John Degenkolb could grab a top 10 finish.
Possible surprises?
Direct Energie’s Lilian Calmejane is one of the Tour’s most talented baroudeurs, or riders capable of long, sustained efforts off the front of the bunch.
Jasper Stuyven, Daryl Impey and Timothy Dupont are other options for brave punters.
